Opt for Classic

I'm going to have to be the one to tell you...it's time  to pick a new sofa for your living room. Your last choice wasn't bad per se, but you know you're not completely happy with it.  The arms are too big, the leather (or what you thought was leather) hasn't held up, and its lines are more akin to a clunky rhinoceros, than the graceful gazelle you imagined.

So you don't make the same mistakes again, I'm here to tell you to opt for classic on your next sofa.  Easy advice, I know, but I'm going to show you three looks that will easily withstand the test of time, provide outstanding comfort and be the workhorse of any living room.

Telford Sofa by CR Laine
The Telford sofa, shown above, is one of my favorite sofas ever because it offers one of the most classic shapes but still has plenty of interesting details.  Although rooted in tradition, the Telford sofa easily pairs with more transitional pieces that will keep your look current.  Its best features include the English arms, tight back and ferule and caster detail on its front legs. Optional nailhead trim further enhances the look.  I've had this sofa in my house for the past 5 years and I would choose it again and again.

Klein Sofa by CR Laine
The Klein sofa, shown above, is a bread and butter design and if you're are confused by anything else I say today, you can't go wrong with this choice.  The Klein is a chameleon that will easily be at home with just about anything you pair with it.  With an optional swap out on the leg style, you can take it slightly more traditional, but I don't really think it's necessary.  Put the Klein in a neutral fabric and it will last longer than you will.

CD Sofa by CR Laine
My last recommendation for you would be the CD sofa, which might give you a few more construction options than you may want to make, but it is an absolute stunner in the track arm version you see above.  Many think this style skews towards the transitional, and I suppose it could, but it is a very versatile sofa.  I've used this in several projects and the result is always sublime.

When you're ready to take a plunge and buy a new sofa, remember these three pieces.  Each is a great choice and you won't have any reason to second guess yourself.

Creating Your Signature Look

It's a new year and there's something I've been meaning to talk to you about.  I know you think it's okay to still be using that raggedly sofa you've had for over a decade.  I get it, you're emotionally attached.  But what about that chair in the corner?  Yes, the one with the wiggly leg that you know will give at any minute under the weight of the a two year old.  Listen, I know Rome wasn't built in a day, but it's time for you to start building your home.  I don't mean the physical walls and foundations, I mean the feel, the atmosphere, the look.  More specifically, YOUR LOOK!

I was just reading Newell Turner's letter in the latest House Beautiful and he had some very interesting things to say. He started by asking "Why are so many people making do with less than their best when it comes to their home?"  He continues by saying, "While interior decoration may not be the most pressing matter at hand, home is where so much of life is lived.  It's where we wake up to face the world, where all sorts of dramas unfold, and where we return at the end of the day seeking rest and renewal."

Home is a vital place and I want your home to say something about you.  Something personal, something empowering, something poignant. It's time for you to do your best at home!

Over the next month, I'll be running our Special Order Upholstery Sale when you can take 20% off all Sectionals, Sofas, Chairs and Ottomans from our favorite vendors, CR Laine, Bassett, and Sam Moore.  I'll be in the shop all month to help you pull your signature look together.  Don't wait.  It's time you live the life you deserve!
